The corner of High Street and Macdowell Street is a space in need of some TLC. New Practice have been commissioned by Renfrewshire Council to develop a temporary installation to improve the site while plans for its redevelopment are worked on.
We will be working with local stakeholders and young people to develop ideas for the site, with installation due to take place later in 2020.
We want everyone to get involved in the project, and to come up with creative ideas for how the corner could look in the future. We've created two Design Challenges for people of all ages to get involved at home.
We have partnered with Young Scot to offer rewards for taking part! You can get 250 reward points for submitting your idea as part of our Crafting Design Challenge, and 500 reward points for taking part in our SketchUp Design Jam. Click here to find out more.
Get creative with a downloadable pack of ideas and resources for creating your own ideas for the temporary installation. Developed for Primary School learners with support from adults, you can use everyday and recycyled materials to explore the creative process of design.
You can print these at home, or can get in touch if you would like a set posted out to you.
Are you a Young Scot member? You can earn 250 Rewards points for participating in the Crafting Challenge! Click here to find out more.
Download our Crafting Design Brief and Resources! On Monday 11th May, New Practice led a YouTube Live workshop exploring how to use the free online tool SketchUp to create a model of the site, and come up with your own ideas for the temporary installation.
Developed for Secondary School learners with an interest in design, this workshop walked through the process of digital 3D modelling and how to think like a designer.
The workshop is broken in to sections below, giving an explanation of the Corner for Johnstone project, how to sign-up for Sketchup, and some basic instructions on how to create your first 3D model.
